Foxhunting - Misty River Hounds

I took these two at a local foxhunt. Let me know what you think....not particularly original, but I thought they were good photojournalistic shots.

Exterior Technique

Been a bit about shooting exteriors lately, so I had to check my notes/files. This technique is something that Craig talked about and it works for sunset and sunrise. In this particular case sunrise was camera right and quartering, so I thought I would get better detail.

Original:
About 20 minutes prior to sunrise.
f/16
13 sec
ISO 100

How big should I make my image?

That's entirely up to you. However, some things to consider:

1) There is very little security on the file you share. Right clicking is not disabled (yet), so anyone can grab what you share. I am going to start adding my copyright watermark to my images.

2) The site will automagically scale your images for use as thumbnails. Depending on where you are on the site will... [More]

New Bug: Hiding Pages with Files attached.

Please do not mark pages with files attached as hidden. There is a problem where the Random and Recent function still try to access the file and it causes problems with the display of the site. Thanks.

Added to Bugs list.

Apple Aperture -- $440

Amazon is now selling Aperture. If you happen to have a machine that can run it smoothly, you can get it for $60 off what Apple sells it for.

Canon 5D or 1D Mark IIN

I am looking to upgrade from my 10D and keep flip flopping between these two. When at SI I used the 1V so the 45 point AF system of the 1D Mark IIN is very appealing - I miss this feature. I don't shoot a lot of sports so speed is not that much of a necessity though. Has anyone used both these bodies? Is the 1D Mark IIN worth the extra $1000 when I don't really need the speed? Is is... Architectural Photos

I am doing some architectural shots for a general contractor locally and I wondered what tips, suggestions people might have. What equipment besides a tilt-shift lens is going to come in handy for this?

For example, what filters are going to make the lighting really pop at dawn and dusk.

Other ideas on getting really pretty lighting?

Interiors - what do I do about... [More]

Red-Shouldered Hawk

This was taken from a recent trip to Central FL to visit my folks. And no, it's not a captive animal. Just did not seem to care we were there. Taken from about 20ft with a 500mm and I could hardly get it in the picture. Also using this image to test Apertures output to jpeg.

Aperture DNG Warning

For all you Aperture users out there I learned a hard lesson today. I am in the process of bringing all my images over to Aperture and am converting the RAW files to DNG before import into Aperture. To ease this process I am making my computer compute by using an Automator action to handle some of the mundane tasks such as initial renaming and DNG conversion. Well, Adobe's free DNG... [More]

Purple Haze

Color is slightly altered to suit my mood for this one; otherwise it's pretty much untouched.

Portfolio shot

funny... this pose is close to one that we did at RMSP that I liked then, and I hadn't tried it since.

Kaleidoscope Tree

Kaleidoscope: "A complex, colorful or shifting pattern or scene." Took me a while to figure out what to title this. I took this shot with my little PowerShot Pro1, in Chicago if you can believe it, on my campus. The colors made me stop and stare.

What's a Group?

Groups are another way to organize members and their content. Any member can create a group, and it can be open or closed. Open groups allow any member to join. Closed groups require the Group Owner (creator) to add members. It is important to note that a Group is not a folder, it is merely an association performed automatically by the site. You could think of it as a Smart Folder where... [More]
